Flight Nurse Position

 

Our flight nurses are at the forefront of delivering advanced critical care in dynamic and often challenging environments, combining clinical excellence with compassion on every mission. As integral members of our air medical team, they provide rapid assessment, life-saving interventions, and continuous patient management during transport, working seamlessly alongside flight paramedics and pilots. This role demands strong critical thinking, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering the highest standard of care when every second counts.

Position Overview

The Flight Nurse provides intensive care level life support services to critically ill and/or injured patients as part of an integrated air transport team.

Flight Nurses deliver critical care services under the stresses of flight, with frequent exposure to blood/body fluids, in sometimes hazardous conditions, near moving mechanical parts and within high noise environments. Training and resources are available to mitigate risk as appropriate, but the responsibility to utilize those devices falls to the individual.

Completion of an accredited certificate or associate’s degree in a registered nursing program.

Completion of an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program in nursing, business or related field.

Three years or more experience as a registered nurse in the emergency and/or adult critical care environments.

Completion of an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program in nursing, business or related field.

  • Active, Non-Restricted Registered Nursing License in West Virginia or appropriate states based on assigned work location
  • Satisfactory completion of HealthNet Aeromedical Services Initial Flight Team Member Orientation Program
  • Completion of Specialty RN Certification (CFRN) within two years of hire
  • Attends and actively participates in pre-mission briefings and debriefings.
  • Assists pilot as requested to enhance safety of self and others.
  • Completes clinical and operational functions in a safe manner, utilizing all available resources, training and judgment.
  • Performs advanced skills as permitted by applicable regulations and the HealthNet Aeromedical Services Medical Director.
  • Immediately acts on safety concerns and hazardous conditions.
  • In a timely manner, reports safety concerns and hazardous conditions.
  • Effectively completes complex clinical patient assessments.
  • Provides patient stabilization using established clinical care guidelines and skill set.
  • Before, during and after flight operations, liaisons with peers and other professionals to ensure quality delivery of care and operational safety.
  • Ability to select, check and maintain, and operate equipment/supplies found on an aircraft.
  • Possesses basic computer skills with flexibility to utilize new software/hardware sets.
  • Maintains currency of all required licenses, certifications and continuing education programs.
  • Completes all required clinical, operational and performance improvement documentation.
  • Communicates educational needs to the leadership team.
  • Collects statistical data as required.
  • Participates in committee and marketing/outreach activities as required.
  • Follows standards of conduct and procedures developed by HealthNet Aeromedical Services.
  • Follows standards developed by appropriate governmental bodies.
  • Willingness to work beyond the end of scheduled shift, on unscheduled days and at any base location as required allowing for service availability.
  • Willingness to complete patient transports by ground ambulance as required and directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by members of the HealthNet Aeromedical Services leadership team.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull and transfer patients of high weights with limited resources
  • Ability to twist upper body while moving patients and/or equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, reach, stoop, bend, crawl and crouch for extended time periods
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing and potentially extreme environmental conditions
  • Ability to smell and identify odors
  • Ability to use close, distant and peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual focus
  • Ability to clearly hear and interpret voice, two-way radio and telephone communication

Flight Paramedic Position

 

Our flight paramedics serve in a critical frontline role, delivering high-level care in rapidly evolving and high-pressure situations. Blending advanced clinical skill with quick decision-making, they confidently respond to complex patient needs on every call. As key members of our air medical crew, flight paramedics conduct thorough assessments, initiate advanced interventions, and manage patient care throughout transport, working in close coordination with flight nurses and pilots. This position calls for sharp clinical judgment, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure, along with a dedication to providing exceptional care when it matters most.

  • Driver’s License in good standing and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record history as described within the company’s Driver Acceptability standards
  • West Virginia Mobile Critical Care Paramedic Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Certification
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Provider Certification or International Trauma Life Support Provider Certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification
  • Pediatric Emergencies for Pre-Hospital Professionals Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and Hazardous Materials
